How Chiropractic Care and Physical Therapy Can Help with Neck Pain…Dr. Dennis Lenselink Bloomington, MN

Neck pain is extremely common in many people. It can start off being minor pain but can turn into a real big “pain in the neck” in a very short time if left untreated. Neck pain can stem from anything- from every day activities, to diseases and infections. We offer screenings and testing to directly pin-point what and where your neck pain is starting from. Through the combination of therapies and techniques we can help you get your life back neck-pain free.

What is Neck Pain?

Neck pain can be minor pain to debilitating pain. Neck pain can root from various diseases and disorders that target tissues in the neck.

Some examples of conditions that can trigger neck pain are:

  • Herniated disc
  • Pinched nerve
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Whiplash
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Neck strain
  • Neck injury
  • Infections and viruses of the throat such as Turberculosis, Osteomyelitis, Meningitis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Polymyalgia rheaumatica (cervical pain)
  • Physical activity such a contact sport (soccer, football, hockey)

What Causes Neck Pain

The major cause of neck pain are tight, stiff, and restricted muscles, joint fixation/restriction, ligament damage, arthritic degeneration from trauma, and disc injuries. Most people deal with the combination of all symptoms.

The greatest cause for neck pain is hindered movement between joints. The muscles inside the neck are so stiff and tight, there is no room for movement. Another reason could be because the neck muscles are very weak.

Symptoms of Neck Pain

Most of the time pain in the neck is heightened with movement. Other symptoms associated with some forms of neck pain include:

All of these symptoms are often a result of nerves becoming choked because of restricted joint movement and muscle spasm. For example, compression of the nerves  to the back of the head, can cause headaches in the back of the head and over the eyes. A lot of times, neck pain is combined with upper back and/or lower back pain. This is caused by inflammation of the spine or stress (compression) of nerves and areas of the spine “locking up” causing muscles and fascia to respond by tightening up.

At the end of the study, all 82 patients cancelled surgery.

Not all chiropractors are created equal. If you have ever had a bad experience with a chiropractor, whether its personality based or care based, don’t assume that all chiropractors are going to treat you the same. There are around 40 techniques used by chiropractors when treating patients. Advacare Clinics Introduces Pain-Free Hemorrhoid Procedure…Dr. Dennis Leneslink Bloomington, MN

Dennis Lenselink, Office Administrator  at AdvaCare Clinics  in Bloomington MN has introduced a new procedure called the Ultroid for people suffering with hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids can be a touchy subject for a lot of people. They cause a lot of pain and grief for many people and suffer in silence because they are embarrassed about having them and they don’t know what to do to take care of  them. People suffering from hemorrhoids are worried about surgery, side-effects, and discomfort. The Ultroid is a procedure that is safe and effective.

What are Hemorrhoids? Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the anal cavity that are common for many people. Although they can be quite painful, they are usually not a serious issue. There are two forms of hemorrhoids: internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids are veins that swell inside the anal cavity, and external hemorrhoids swell near the opening of the anus. It is quite possible to have both types of hemorrhoids at the same time. Procedures vary depending on what type you have.

What Causes Hemorrhoids? Hemorrhoids are typically caused by an enormous amount of pressure on the veins in the pelvic and rectal area. Normally, tissue inside the anus fills with blood to help control bowel movements. If you use too much pressure to move stool, the increased pressure causes the veins in this tissue to swell and stretch. Diarrhea and constipation can also lead to straining and can increase pressure on veins in the anal canal. Hemorrhoids are common during the last 6 months of pregnancy in women. This is because of increased pressure on the blood vessels in the pelvic area. Straining and pushing during labor can make hemorrhoids worse. Obesity can lead to hemorrhoids as well. Symptoms of Hemorrhoids Both internal and external hemorrhoids share common symptoms including:

  • Bleeding during bowel movements. You may see streaks of bright red blood on toilet paper after you strain to have a bowel movement.
  • Itching
  • Pain in or near the rectum. It can be very painful to clean the anal area.

Internal Hemorrhoids: When experiencing Internal hemorrhoids, you may see bright red streaks of blood or mucus on toilet paper or bright red blood in the toilet bowl after you have a normal bowel movement. You may see blood on the surface of the stool as well. Internal hemorrhoids often are small, swollen veins in the wall of the anal canal. Sometimes they can be large, sagging veins that bloat out of the anus. These hemorrhoids may be very painful if they hang out and are pinched by the anal muscles. They can also  be very painful if the blood flow to the hemorrhoid is blocked.

External Hemorrhoids: External hemorrhoids can get irritated and clot under the skin, causing a hard painful lump. This is called a thrombosed, or clotted, hemorrhoid.

The New Procedure at AdvaCare Clinics, The Ultroid. We have a new procedure in our office and it’s called Ultroid. It is a simple electrical device that replaces surgery or banding. The doctor takes a sterile package and uses a probe much like a thermometer.  And when they attach it to probe, they safely insert it through the rectal tissue into the rectum and touch the hemorrhoid. This causes a small electrical current that makes the hemorrhoid shrink. No pain, no bleeding. Most procedure times run between 10-15 minutes and the patient walks out the door. We also provide the services of surgery if necessary and the most common form is “banding”. But the banding procedure leads to a lot of bleeding and itching down the road for the patient. In double blind studies that were conducted, the Ultroid procedure was far superior to the banding and any other hemorrhoid procedure for pain, safety, and comfort.

The Ultroid procedure is very safe and effective. It uses new technology and is FDA approved and works very well. It gets you the results you want fast and efficiently. People actually want to tell their friends about their procedure and how effective it was without any discomfort. If you have any questions or think that you or a loved is suffering from hemorrhoids, please call AdvaCare Clinics at 952-835-6653 to set up a complimentary screening. The screening is easy, pain free and takes about 5-10 minutes. Our in-clinic screenings have the ability to determine what treatments would be the most beneficial for you.

TMJ: How Chiropractic and Physical Therapy Help…Dr. Dennis Lenselink, Bloomington MN

Chiropractic and physical therapy is an effective way to combat temporomandibular pain or TMJ pain. At AdvaCare Clinics we incorporate different varieties and techniques to treat TMJ problems. Over the course of 30 years our head chiropractor and office administrator, Dr. Dennis Lenselink has mastered the diagnosis and treatment for TMJ pain.

When diagnosing TMJ problems there should be a large focus not only on the jaw movement and jaw alignment, but also on neck movement and neck alignment. The jaw works like a teeter-totter. When your jaw opens and closes it hinges and when that action occurs there is a pull in balance on one side of the jaw compared to the other. The first four cervical vertebrae help the jaw help in this teeter-totter effect, so when there is a jaw problem there is almost always a problem with the neck. Headaches are another indicator of TMJ problems. The muscles of the jaw attach onto the back of the head, side of the head, and over the ear in the temporal region.

The most effective treatment for TMJ problems is going to the interior of the mouth and performing trigger point work on the jaw. This method can be a little tender, but it is highly effective. Another route for treatment is acupuncture on the exterior of the jaw. If the jaw is in extreme pain we have also performed:

  • Laser
  • Ultrasound
  • Electrical Stimulation
  • Massage
  • And many more…

If you have any questions or think that you or a loved is suffering from TMJ problems please call AdvaCare Clinics at 952-835-6653 to set up a complimentary screening. The screening is easy, pain free and takes about 5-10 minutes. Our in-clinic screenings have the ability to determine what treatments would be the most beneficial for you.

Lower Back Pain Causes and Non Surgical Help…Dr. Dennis Lenselink Bloomington MN

Lower back pain is the #1 debilitating condition in the country.  It is the biggest reason of lost work productivity. When you can’t work, you can’t make money. Not only is lower back pain an issue for North America, it is a problem worldwide. Here at AdvaCare Clinics, we excel in lower back pain procedures and therapies. We have many natural remedies and therapies you can even use at home as well.

What causes low back pain?

Let’s face it America: most of us are out of shape, too fat, and we don’t have the right muscle balance. One cause of lower back pain is Upper & Lower Cross Syndromes. They are syndromes with various complications that can cause detrimental issues to your body. A person can experience strength, flexibility, range of motion issues and lead further to degenerative process (corrosion of the body- arthritis, etc.). Upper cross syndrome refers to the upper part of the body (neck/upper back/chest/shoulders) while the lower cross syndrome focuses the lower part of the body (pelvis/low back/ abdominal/ upper thighs). Both syndromes consist of various tightened and weak muscles. Muscles are supposed to be working in a certain firing order but they refuse to communicate. So you make the smaller and weaker muscles pick up the slack of the bigger muscles that aren’t working correctly.

Muscle spasm, tightness, and stiffness can all cause lower back pain. But the #1 cause of back pain is the joints of the back. If the joints get irritated, they send a signal to the back muscles that say “stop me from moving”. A herniated disc causes back pain as well, but it does not just pop up over night. Herniated discs usually have been developing for over months or years. Then comes that one day where you bend over or start the lawn mower. Your lower back screams as you throw it out.

With a combination of factors, the sciatica is another symptom associated with lower back pain. The big nerve off the lower back is being choked or entrapped through the buttocks, low back, or legs.

What Can Be Done To Help Lower Back Pain

The WORST thing you can do is to come in for back pain and go right into surgery. You want to avoid surgery at all cost. A good surgeon will tell you that too. There was a study done where they had 82 cases for lower back pain scheduled for surgery in Florida at an HMO back in the 1980’s. Not one of those patients went to surgery. Although they were scheduled for surgery, all the patients went to chiropractic clinics instead. After the average treatment plan, about 6-8 weeks, every single patient had solved their lower back problems.

Testing the sciatic region is the most common place to start. It pinpoints how severe your condition may be and whether the pain stops at your buttocks, hip, knee or foot. This can open up the door to numerous treatment plans offered at AdvaCare Clinics in Bloomington.

Out of all the testing done on which therapies are the best for low back pain, (chiropractic care, physical therapy, and medical procedures) chiropractic care came out on top. It is the best care you can do for your body. Tie medical procedures and physical therapy in the mix, and you got the ultimate trifecta of therapies and procedures. Your body will love you!

If you’ve never considered chiropractic care, you really owe yourself to do it. We combine Chiropractic care, physical therapy, and medical procedures to help you on your way to feeling better.

Call AdvaCare Clinics (952) 835-6653 today if you have any questions about any of our therapies or to schedule a complimentary screening today. Our screenings have the ability to determine what treatments would be the most beneficial for you. We have many screenings that take about 5 to 10 minutes to assess that are quick, easy and pain free.

Carpal Tunnel: Non Surgical Relief…Dr Dennis Lenselink Bloomington MN

Carpal Tunnel, or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, can be helped through the use of physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, laser, deep tissue massage, and medical surgery. At AdvaCare Clinics of Bloomington, Minnesota the techniques and therapies needed to aid in carpal tunnel are readily available.

In this video Dr. Dennis Lenselink describes Carpal Tunnel as an entrapment of the nerve. He describes the entrapment as a “choke”. For example, imagine water running through a garden hose. When you crimp a portion of the hose the flow of the water decreases, if you continue to ignore the original crimp you can easily create more crimps in your hose until you have absolutely no water flowing through your hose.

The concept of the garden hose and the crimps throughout the hose is the same concept in carpal tunnel. The crimp starts in a person’s neck, or a vertebra in the spine, and if ignored the symptoms can work their way down the arm. If a person’s job involves typing, hammering, involvement in an assembly line or anything that involves a repetitive movement that person can develop tension in the forearm, which could lead to Carpal Tunnel.

Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel can range from tingling in the hand and fingers, shooting pain throughout the fingers, or pain in the wrist. Normal daily movements such as: turning your head, raising your arm up, typing on a keyboard, or even driving your car can become a challenge. If you have Carpal Tunnel or Carpal Tunnel symptoms, and they are increased do to activities while on the job you may be eligible for worker’s compensation.

If you or a loved one are dealing with Carpal Tunnel, or if you think you or a loved one has Carpal Tunnel please call AdvaCare Clinics at 952-835-6653.
