Chiropractic Therapies Help with Chronic Pain…Dr. Dennis Lenselink, Bloomington, MN

Pain Relief – chronic pain can be treated

Pain is your body’s way of letting you know something is wrong.  But if you only think of taking a pill for it, you are masking the helpful symptom and creating the potential for chronic pain.

Chiropractors are trained to diagnose the causes of your pain and to develop a plan to eliminate or reduce your pain by identifying the source.

Chronic pain is pain that persists even after the warning has been given that something is wrong.  It can be very difficult to reduce or stop if not treated.  The body accommodates this persistent symptom, and the signal has to be disrupted to begin to heal.

This is where your chiropractor comes in.  He or she needs to know the source of pain:  injuries not healed or fully healed, diseases and injuries to the nervous system are common sources. Knowing the sources will guide your chiropractor to develop treatment plans you can work with that will help control or eliminate your chronic pain. While there are numerous potential causes of chronic pain, all have a state of some injury or disease that has not completely resolved:  sports injury, falls, car accidents are sources of unhealed or partially healed injury.  Diseases not fully resolved might be arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus, obesity, cancer, ulcers, HIV or AIDS, gallbladder disease and multiple sclerosis. And injuries to the nervous system can result from spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, stroke or brain tumors.

Your chiropractor will develop a treatment plan with the kinds care, frequency of visits, exercises, supplements and nutritional support.  You may benefit from a variety of options such as acupuncture, massage therapy, laser therapy, trigger point therapy or electro-stimulation. Chiropractic is very effective, non-invasive treatment for chronic pain because of its effect on the nerve roots without the complications of surgery or the side effects of pharmaceuticals.

Chiropractic Care Can Help You Quit Smoking…Dr. Dennis Lenselink, Bloomington, MN

If you are a smoker, take a minute to come clean about how many cigarettes you smoke daily. The average smoker consumes about one pack of cigarettes a day. The cost of a pack of cigarettes is roughly $6.50. This means that if you’re an average smoker, you spend around $2,400 a year on cigarettes. If that logic didn’t make your wallet tremble, let’s briefly go over some of the negative effects cigarettes have on your body: hair loss, cracked skin and wrinkles, yellow teeth, asthma, vocal cord damage, osteoporosis, poor circulation, Bronchitis, lung damage, organ failure, cancer, and death. AdvaCare Clinics wants to help you quit smoking and get your body to a healthier state. We have many different Acupuncture/Laser, Detox foot baths, and nutrition/homeopathic packages that can help you get started.

Tobacco Use Facts

All forms of tobacco use increases the development of oxidative stress leading to premature aging, as well as increases toxins and the development of pain, inflammation, and degenerative health conditions. According to the CDC, more deaths are caused each year by tobacco use than by all deaths from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders combined.

These Deaths are Preventable

Even the “casual smoker” can develop tobacco related health issues. No smoker is immune to these issues. Even the effects of second-hand smoke can lead to the same illnesses of someone who smokes several packs a day. Being around tobacco causes many complications, both seen and unseen.

Quitting Smoking

The simplest way for you to avoid complications, both physically and financially, from the affects of tobacco use is to quit smoking and using tobacco products. According to the CDC, stopping tobacco use lowers the risk for lung and other types of cancer, reduces risk for coronary heart disease and other heart conditions, reduces respiratory symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath, reduces the risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and reduces the risk for infertility, especially in women, and dramatically increases life expectancy.

The Sooner You Quit, the Better

Within the day or two after quitting tobacco use you will experience blood pressure decrease, an increase in body temperature in hands and feet, your carbon monoxide levels drop to normal levels, oxygen increases, nerve endings re-grow, and smell and taste improves. Within the first few months to a year after quitting your circulation improves, walking becomes easier, lung function increases, coughing and wheezing decreases dramatically, energy improves and sinus congestion decreases. After one year you reduce your risk of coronary heart disease by 30-50% At 5-10 years of being tobacco-free your risk for stroke is reduced to that of a person who has never smoked, and your risk of cancer in the lungs, mouth esophagus, bladder, and pancreas drops by 50%.

The True Cost of Tobacco

Every year, tobacco companies spend billions of dollars on advertising and promotion. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), cigarette companies spend $12 billion on advertising each year (that’s roughly $34 million a day), and U.S. consumers spend $90 billion on tobacco products each year. Compare that with the additional $70 billion dollars annually for tobacco-related healthcare costs, and the 5.1 million potential lives lost per year, and it becomes obvious that tobacco use comes with a hefty price tag.

We understand that smoking can be a difficult addiction to break. That’s why we at AdvaCare Clinics are educating people on the true costs of tobacco, as well as providing counseling to help those who are stuck in addiction find a way to quit. We work with you, using natural healthcare solutions, to help you fight the addiction and five you back your life.

Pregnant Adjustments: How a chiropractor can safely help you with your pregnancy…Dr. Lenselink, Bloomington, MN

There are ways for chiropractors to work with pregnant women. Chiropractors adjust their pregnant patients on safe adjusting tables and are taught techniques that do not apply unnecessary force to the abdomen. AdvaCare Clinics in Bloomington, Minnesota creates a balanced and healthy state for the mother and her baby throughout the pregnancy.

Finding out you are pregnant can be a joyous surprise, but once the initial surprise has worn off the planning must begin. Planning where the baby is going to sleep, which hospital the baby will be delivered, what the name is going to be, and many many more. However, there must be a plan to take care of the mother’s health during the pregnancy. Finding the right chiropractor to guide and help you through your pregnancy is an important decision. There are chiropractors that specifically focus on prenatal and postnatal care such as: Diplomate of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, or ICPA which is the highest level of training for chiropractors treating pregnant women, the CACCP which is a certificate with the ICPA, and Webster Certified which specializes in pelvic balance in pregnancy.

There are a few different reasons a woman should see a chiropractor while pregnant. Do to the extension of the woman’s abdomen while pregnant there is an increase in the back curvature. There are also pelvic changes while pregnant, in which there should be a maintained alignment of the pelvis. The reason that this is so important is due to the difficulty for the baby to develop in the mother’s womb, if the pelvis alignment is “off balance” then it creates a smaller space for the baby to grow.  Another reason the pelvis alignment is so important is when the baby is ready to be delivered if the pelvis is not aligned it makes it hard for the baby to get into the optimum position for delivery.

The benefits for pregnant women who receive regular adjustments are plentiful. Adjustments help with: controlling symptoms of nausea, pain relief , reducing time spent in labor, increased percentage of full-term pregnancy, prevention of a C-section, and creates a healthier pregnancy overall.

Another aspect to keep in mind is that not only does the mother need to be treated during and after her pregnancy, but once the baby is born that child should receive chiropractic care. The delivery process is difficult for the mother, but it is also difficult for the baby to maneuver outside of its mother. During this birthing process the baby gains subluxations which are misalignments of the spine that cause discomfort and interferes with body function.

Our chiropractor, Dennis Lenselink has been treating patients for over thirty years. In that time he has treated many pregnant women throughout their pregnancy and after. At AdvaCare Clinics, we have all the tools needed to safely treat women who are pregnant. Dr. Dennis Lenselink also provides nutritional guidance and supplements for the mother once the baby is born. If you would like to set up a consultation to discuss your plan of care during or after your pregnancy please contact us at 952-835-6653.

Lose Inches Quickly With LipoLaser…Dr. Lenselink, Bloomington, MN

Just beginning on your journey to losing weight, or want to lose those last few pesky inches that just won’t seem to disappear? LipoLaser could be your secret to losing inches! LipoLaser is a body sculpting treatment that melts away inches of body fat quickly and safely.  With the help of the team at AdvaCare Clinics, you are one step closer to reaching your goal!

How Does It Work?

The laser energy safely penetrates the skin targeting the fat cells (subcutaneous layer). Once cells are permeated, they release fatty acids, water and glycerol or triglycerides. The triglycerides are released from the fat cells and the body uses them as an energy source. The fat cells then “shrink” significantly resulting in inch loss and the removal of cellulite.

Most patients will incorporate the use of a whole body vibration (WVB) platform for 10 minutes after treatment. WBV stimulates all cells in the body to function at a higher rate, which in turn increases the metabolism causing more fuel to burn which helps to accelerate weight loss.

WBV causes increased local circulation to targeted areas, in turn giving the visible cellulite area a “smoother” look. WBV stimulates all cells in the body, increases blood flow and oxygen intake and stimulates metabolism to help flush out toxins.

LipoLaser is shown to release 40 to 60 grams of fat during a typical 20-30 minute waistline treatment. This represents 400-500 calories. Your whole body vibration session following the laser treatment will ensure the 400-500 calories of fat loss are not reabsorbed by the fat cells.

Where Does The Fat Go?

The fat is absorbed by the lymphatic system where it gets broken down and then processed by the liver and then gets converted as an energy source. This natural process allows your body to excrete the fat and it leaves your body through your natural waste mechanism.

What Can I Expect?

You can relax in a comfortable position while a LipoLaser technician secures the multi-diode paddles and the EN probes to the target area. In 10 minute intervals, you are free to relax, read, and listen to music.

What Happens After a Treatment?

You are free to resume normal activities immediately after each session-including exercise. Remember: LipoLaser is safe, non-invasive and you will experience no pain or side effects.

How Quickly Will I See Results?

Most patients will see measurable results after their first treatment. The standard treatment protocol consists of three, 20-30 minute treatment sessions every week for 3 weeks. Best results are achieved when utilizing the whole body vibration equipment for 10 minutes immediately after treatment.

Worker’s Compensation: The Effects of Negligence…Dr. Lenselink, Bloomington, MN

Worker’s Compensation also known as Work Comp (WC) is a term everyone who works should know. Worker’s Compensation is when an employee is injured at work do to negligence at their workplace and their employer offers that person benefits. The benefits include but are not limited to wage-loss, medical and rehabilitation benefits. Here at AdvaCare Clinics we know all the ins and outs of work comp.

The first step in filing a WC clam is to immediately contact your employer after the incident occurs. The employer is then required to complete a First Report of Injury (FROI) form.

After the report is completed depending on the type of accident the employee can choose to go to any clinic of his or her choosing for care. Once a clinic has been chosen that provider must be informed of the injury being caused at work, for if the clinic tries to bill the claim out to the patient’s primary health insurance the health insurance can reject the claim if they obtain information on the injury being caused at the patients place of work.

Once the clinic has established the patient as a WC case they will require certain documents to be completed, and of those documents the most important one is the Work Ability Form. This form shows any limitations that the patient may have obtained after the incident. These restrictions or limitations may be, weight restrictions, length of time spent working, how many breaks the effected employee is allotted per work shift, and many more.  This work ability form is given to the patient every two weeks, or when the restrictions change to give to their employer, or the clinic may send the document via fax or email to whomever is handling the patient’s case.

The time span of a Work Comp case averages out to be 12 weeks. Throughout this period the patient should be making improvements to decrease their work limitations. The care experienced at their chosen clinic should be aiding the patient in reaching this goal. Once the patient has completed their treatment plan, and they are back to work at their full capability the patient is allowed a PRN treatment plan through their WC claim. A PRN in medical terminology means an “as needed” basis treatment plan. Normally, the patient is given 12 PRN visits, and those visits usually end up being a once a month treatment plan.

An employee should never be afraid to go to their employers and request aid   in trying to remedy a physical hindrance that was caused by an incident at work, for it is the employer’s responsibility to provide a safe and accommodating environment for their employees. It is required that all employers need to have workers’ compensation insurance. These benefits are provided, so employees won’t sue their employers. Also, it is illegal in most states for companies or employers not to hire someone because of a previous WC claim.

At AdvaCare Clinics we have seen and processed many WC claims. Our chiropractic doctor, Dennis Lenselink has been working with WC claims for over thirty years. At our clinic we provide all of the appropriate documents needed for a WC claim, we use all of our resources to get our patients back to work in a timely fashion, and provide resources if ever legal action must be taken to receive any deserved WC benefits. If you have any specific questions or wish to set up a consultation to see if your case falls under the WC guidelines feel free to call us at 952-835-6653. If you are looking for very specific WC information you can check out this website https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/?id=176.135, which is the Minnesota Statutes regarding Worker’s Compensation.

Steps to Take After a Car Accident…Dr. Dennis Lenselin, Bloomington, MN

Car accidents can be extremely detrimental when it comes to a person’s health and livelihood.  It can be a very scary situation. Sometimes, auto accident victims who have been seriously injured cannot do the things they had done before; they can no longer move or function the way they used to.  A lot of auto accident victims are unable to sleep, sit or stand for long periods of time, take care of themselves, and become very dependent on pain medication. Here at AdvaCare Clinics, we can help you step by step through the process following a car accident and start the healing process the natural way.

There are many steps that need to be taken after every car accident. Advacare clinics have come up with the first 10 which are steps that need to be taken within the first 10 minutes, hours, and days after a car accident. These steps are made to make the situation a little smoother while going through difficult times:

The First 10 Minutes:

  • Stay Calm- asses passengers
  • Call 9-1-1 immediately if injuries or severe vehicle damage
  • Move out of traffic IF it’s safe
  • Turn hazard lights on
  • Be polite- don’t admit fault. Give only facts to police
  • Take pictures if safe and take notes
  • Exchange: name, address, phone, license plate, driver’s license, insurance
  • Ask witnesses for names, phone numbers and addresses

The First 10 Hours:

  • Secure vehicle- remove valuables
  • See AdvaCare Clinics even if injuries are minor
  • Record weather, time, location, statements made
  • File  accident report as required by state law
  • Contact insurance  agent
  • Photograph visible injuries
  • Contact employer if you are unable to work

The First 10 Days:

  • See Advacare Clinics even if injuries seem minor, soft tissue injuries can go      unnoticed for months
  • Get a spinal stress test to check for joint, ligament, or soft tissue injury. Even with lack of pain or severe pain

Insurace:

There has been a trend where the insuance company of the at fault driver will offer the injured person a “fast” settlement. This usually will happen  2-4 days after the car accident. It will usually be a settlement of around $750.00. It is enough money to get some people’s attention. If you accept this offer, you are signing your legal right away for future recovery and settlement for injuries that may not fully develop until weeks later. This is why insurance companies want to get the injured victim to settle “quickly”. Always consult an attorney as to what your rights are.

Being in a car accident can be a very stressful situation for both the victim and his or her family and friends. The last thing you want to worry about is suffering with chronic pain for weeks, months, and even years. Also, never make the mistake or conception that you are “bullet proof” and that it will never happen to you. AdvaCare Clinics is here to help you with your path to recovery after a car accident or any whiplash injury. With the latest equipment and therapies, our team, Dr. Dennis Lenselink DC, Dr. Biel, MD, and Physical Therapist Michael Wilkes can help with your road to recovery.
