Laser Acupuncture Therapy: Non-Invasive Alternative to Acupuncture..Dr. Dennis Lenselink, Bloomington, MN

Laser Acupuncture therapy is an exciting and relatively new technique to acupuncture therapy. Both techniques, used at Advacare Clinics, follow the ancient Chinese belief that the human body is a pathway of circling energy. The energy throughout the body is balanced and freely flowing when it is healthy. When any disruption in the body occurs, the flow of energy becomes blocked and needs to be freed in order to achieve homeostasis. In order to create the flow of energy throughout the body again, acupuncture is used.

While acupuncture uses a thin needle to pierce the skin to hit those blocked areas throughout the body, laser therapy uses a non invasive laser to activate the same areas. The laser is a small hand-held tool rolled over the skin. The beam of light targets energy points on the body which activates cellular growth, ATP (adenosine triphosphate) production, and increased circulation.

Laser therapy is an accurate and pain free substitute for patients who want to get the same benefits of acupuncture but are apprehensive about needles. Research studies have proven that laser therapy increases natural healing time of wounds, contributes in pain reduction (release of endorphin and serotonin), and decreases swelling in affected areas.

Using laser therapy has many advantages. This little beam of light helps the healing process with superficial wounds and other complications of the body such as:

  • Skin diseases/Eczema
  • Acne
  • Headaches/migraines
  • Skin rashes/ poison ivy
  • Cold sores/Canker sores
  • Bruises
  • Insect bites
  • Scars/ cuts and scratches
  • Tissue damage
  • Nerve damage
  • Neck/shoulder/back pain

AdvaCare Clinics offers both acupuncture therapy and laser therapy which are fast and affordable. Both therapies are wonderful techniques to help regain homeostasis throughout the body. With these great therapies, patients will be feeling better the minute they walk out the clinic.

If you have any questions on Laser Acupuncture Therapy,  please call AdvaCare Clinics at 952-835-6653 to set up a complimentary screening. The screening is easy, pain free and takes about 5-10 minutes. Our in-clinic screenings have the ability to determine what treatments would be the most beneficial for you.

Acupuncture: Understanding Your Chi…Dr. Dennis Lenselink, Bloomington, MN

Acupuncture is an effective treatment that has stood the test of time. Acupuncture focuses on natural healing through the understanding of Qi (also known as Chi) and meridian points throughout your body. This form of treatment has been around for thousands of years and can be traced back to Ancient China.  At AdvaCare Clinics of Bloomington, Minnesota, we emphasize the use of acupuncture therapy in all of our treatment plans.

How does acupuncture work? Acupuncture uses stainless steel wire needles that are placed on specific meridian points to stimulate your Chi. Chi is what we would refer to as your “energy flow”, and the meridian points are what we call “energy channels”. When the needle is placed on certain points within the meridian channels it stimulates those points causing a beneficial “energy flow” redirection. This redirection is said to be a chemical reaction within the body due to nerve stimulation. This stimulation can result in pain relief and or pressure relief.

There are many people who are fearful of needles, but as mentioned above these “needles” are not like the ones seen in the doctor’s office. The acupuncture needles are very thin and flexible. They can vary in size, for example if your neck was an area of focus the acupuncturist would use ½” to 1” needles. However, if you were dealing with sciatica or low back problems you would be dealing with points in the hips and or buttocks. These needles would require more length in order to effectively hit the correct meridian points.

An acupuncture session can last anywhere from 15 minutes to 60 minutes. The length of treatment depends on your ailment. In our clinic a normal acupuncture sessions usually run for 15 minutes, but if there is any spasms presently occurring, or if the acupuncture is being used to treat any psychological issue it could run longer.

There have been no recorded serious side effects with the practice of acupuncture. However, you can feel some slight discomfort during your acupuncture session. The discomfort has been said to feel like a pinch or slight tingling running through the body, and the needles can leave slight bruises or a little redness.

Acupuncture helps with many ailments such as: migraine headaches, stress, stomach ailments, depression, infertility, addiction and many more. Dr. Dennis Lenselink has been practicing acupuncture for over 30 years, and is a believer in incorporating this natural healing component into his treatment of patients. Whiplash: How the Combination of Physical Therapy, Chiropractic and Medical Can Help…Dr. Dennis Lenselink, Bloomington MN

Whiplash, or WAD (Whiplash-Associated Disorders) is the term used to describe multiple neck injuries that are caused by an abrupt bend or twist to the neck. Whiplash typically occurs when a person is hit from behind in a car accident. In a common Whiplash case, the person’s body is forced forward while the head stays stationary for a brief moment causing the head to heave up and back. This can be extremely painful damaging and/or sheering muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Advacare Clinics in Bloomington, Minnesota have many procedures and therapies that can help make the healing process manageable.

Tendons, like ligaments, are strong elastic cords. Ligaments go from bone-to-bone, while tendons go from muscle to bone. Although tendons and ligaments are tough, they are defined as soft tissue because they are usually compared to bone or cartilage. The Ligaments and tendons get sprained after a whiplash injury because they are extremely forced out of their capacity to stretch. A whiplash injury may take several months to heal even though it has not been broken.

Even though the most common whiplash injury is from a car accident, there are many other causes of whiplash including contact sport injuries (volleyball, hockey, and football), repetitive stress injuries, chronic strain involving the neck, and child abuse such as shaken baby syndrome (SBS).

A person suffering whiplash may not realize the extent of their injury for some time. In fact, research shows that weeks to months may elapse before pain presents itself. After a whiplash injury, scar tissue can occur on the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. This scar tissue starts to harden in 12-16 weeks after the initial injury. Joints begin to seize and symptoms start to appear.

Common symptoms following whiplash are:

  • neck pain and stiffness
  • upper back pain
  • headaches
  • mid-back and lower back pain
  • pain and weakness of the arms/legs
  • dizziness
  • jaw pain (TMJ)
  • hearing or visual changes
  • difficulty swallowing
  • sleep disturbances

Prolotherapy: An Easy Route for Pain Reduction…Dr. Dennis Lenselink, Bloomington MN

Prolotherapy is a unique and innovative pain reduction therapy.  There are many people that experience pain such as: back pain, neck pain, knee pain, and many others. The pain that most patients refer to is pain within their muscles. These muscles are the skeletal muscles that surround and attach to your tendons and joints. Over time your joints , tendons and ligaments experience wear and tear from years of use and or injury, and when that wear and tear occurs your muscles must work in overtime to make up for the lack of joint, tendon and ligament function. AdvaCare Clinics of Bloomington, Minnesota uses prolotherapy to treat these conditions.

What is prolotherapy? Prolotherapy is a solution that contains certain types of sugars that is injected into the tendons, joints and ligaments. The sugar injection causes an irritation within that tendon, joint or ligament. The body reacts with an inflammatory response. This inflammatory response causes the tendon, joint or ligament to produce connective tissue growth that naturally strengthens that tendon, joint or ligament.

AdvaCare Clinics has added on a medical department that now offers prolotherapy. Our medical doctor, Dr. Lawrence Biel is an advocate for prolotherapy. In March 2013 Dr. Biel ventured to Honduras to work with the Hackett Hemwall Foundation, which was founded by the creators of prolotherapy, Dr. George S. Hackett and Dr. Gustav Anders Hemwall. There he participated in the evaluation of the patient’s eligibility for prolotherapy as well as aid in treating patients through prolotherapy.

At AdvaCare Clinics we try to aid people in getting them back to their optimal health with advanced healthcare solutions. The average person tries to avoid surgery at all cost, and prolotherapy gives people that option.  If you are interested in prolotherapy please give us a call at 952-835-6653 to set up a free consultation with the doctor.

Alkaline Balance: A Healthy Body pH…Dr. Dennis Lenselink, Bloomington MN

Alkaline balance is the secret to a healthy diet. The food we eat affects our everyday lives. It affects our attitude, energy levels and pain levels. AdvaCare Clinics  has completely switched our thinking process of dieting. Instead of dictating to our patients what they should and shouldn’t eat, we test our patients by their tissue/blood base line, and we discover what THEIR body specifically needs to internally function at its optimum potential.

What is alkaline balance? Alkaline balance is what we refer to as our body pH. Our bodies can be too acidic or too basic. When our bodies are too acidic or too basic the functional break down of proteins and enzymes may occur.

People today have strayed away from eating fruits and vegetables which contain many of the enzymes and vitamins we need to maintain a healthy body pH.  Lately, there has been a heavy push for the consumption of wheat and grains. Dr. Alexander Zubkov , of Fairview Southdale Hospital and Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology states that eating too much wheat and grains causes inflammation of the heart. The heart does not handle the insulin produced from the consumption of wheat and grains and causes plaque build-up on the heart. This build up can cause cardiovascular disease and stroke.

However, dieting is not the only factor that plays a role in our pH imbalance. Throughout our daily lives we deal with stressors to our bodies. Whether it’s pressure at work, stress at home, chemicals we breathe in, or the medicine we consume. The inability to efficiently process and dispose of toxins in our bodies are factors that contribute to our body pH. These toxins and stress can cause an increased rate of aging and physical change in our cells and body tissue.

AdvaCare Clinics provides fast and affordable testing for your acidic and vitamin deficiencies. We have recently added a full lab to our clinic that provides full functional testing such as: urinalysis, bowel toxicity, salivary pH challenge, vitamin C sufficiency and many more. The tests are performed by certified medical assistants, and there is no waiting for your results. The medical assistant is able to go through in detail where your imbalances are, and what you can do to get your body back on track to its optimum body pH.
